Sunday Morning Open Forum, 10 - 11AM
Ernest Westfield will be our guest on the Sunday Morning Open Forum, July 7, 10-11AM.
Known for his experiences with the farm system of the Chicago Cubs and the Negro Baseball League, Ernest has been very involved in a variety of community endeavors and in motivating and helping people of all walks of life. He writes poetry, travels the US bringing awareness about the history of the Negro League, and works with youth using sports and other incentives as a motivational speaker and mentor.
In 1992, Mr. Westfield prevailed as the plaintiff in an employment discrimination suit filed against the State of Illinois Dept. of Labor. Earlier this year, he requested that the Urbana City Council put forth a resolution honoring the Negro Baseball League. This past June 17, he was honored with 8 other former members of the Negro Baseball League at the Chicago White Sox game. That's Ernest Westfield, Sunday 10-11AM, here on WEFT 90.1FM.
WEFT Is Back to Full Power!
WEFT is back to broadcasting to our full coverage area in East Central Illinois at 10,000 watts! We replaced our storm damaged 20 year old transmitter which was struck by lightning on May 30th. As of 4:40 PM, Wednesday, July 2, we have been operating with our new state of the art transmitter from Broadcast Electronics. This is a solid state unit which requires no tubes as we have used previously, and provides more ease of maintanance. We are excited about broadcasting a more clear and reliable signal to our listeners.
The price of the transmitter is $51,000. There are other associated costs for installation and materials. We will be raising funds to replace more aging equipment in order to enhance our on air souind even further. Stay tuned for more details.
We thank all our listeners for your patience and support in resolving this situation. Please pass the word on that WEFT is back to full power and full broadcast coverage, with a brand new transmitter. And, remind those outside our listening area to tune into our webcast.
If you would like to donate to our efforts, please click on the Donate Now button. Or contribute during our on air and on line Membership Drive Friday, August 1 - Thursday, August 14.

Election Forums are now open
The forums for the candidates for this year's member election to the WEFT Board of Directors are now open. They can be viewed here. Note that anyone can view the forums, but you need to be registered at weft.org to leave comments and questions. The page for registering is here.
June 2008 Board Election - Candidates
WEFT Board of Directors Membership Election deadline for candidacy is now closed. There are two candidates (in order of entry): Harry Washburn and Jeff Brandt.
There are three member-elected seats open on the Board. However, just because there are two candidates and three open seats, the candidates do not automatically get a seat.
Ballots will be mailed in early June. You will see that by each name there will be three choices: "For," "Against," and "Abstain." A "For" vote counts as +1. An "Against" vote counts as -1. An "Abstain" vote counts as zero. A candidate must have more positive than negative votes to gain a seat. More details will be provided along with your ballot.
The on-line candidates’ forum will be open on May 18 and accessible from this page. There you will be able read the candidate's statements and post questions to the various candidates.
Front Studio Progress
Our engineering committee has been hard at work on the new front studio. We've got track lighting, some new furniture, a new console, a stack of audio hardware, and the monitor speakers. The stream decoders for the Content Depot are also coming online, which will be a great new resource.
Thanks to John, Darren, Alex, and all the other volunteers working on the project, and thanks to all you contributors who are helping to make this possible!
Music Committee seeks to fill positions
The Music Committee is seeking to fill a few positions on a permanent basis: Secretary and Mail Coordinator. In addition, elections will be held at the January meeting for Committee Chair. If you're looking for a volunteer commitment and a fun bunch of people to work with, please check out the position descriptions on the WEFT Wiki!
The Music Committee meets every third Monday of the month, and is open to all.
Open slots/Sub requests
If you've been waiting for an opportunity to host your own show or a chance to demo a show idea, the Programming Committee is now accepting proposals for the following open slots! If you are interested, contact programming@weft.org!
